The second book in my Adirondack Trilogy, Home the Mountains tells a heart-felt story about home and family, perhaps the two most important things in any life.  Rafford Brown is empty, alone, and haunted by the death of his four year-old daughter when he seeks refuge in the Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York.  Looking only for a place to camp for the night, he meets an elderly widow and her family and, to his surprise, Rafford finds a second chance at life – a life he was sure had passed him by. In the wonder of an Adirondack winter, the help of a rare winter fawn, they discover what family and home truly mean.

Here is a brief excerpt from Chapter 20:

[Rafford Brown says] “The Adirondacks saved me. One day in sheer desperation, I packed my camping gear, drove to Old Forge, put my canoe in the water and paddled away. I didn’t know where I was going or what I was going to do, but I was determined to find some answers in the mountains. If not, I was ready to use the pistol that I carried in my backpack to put an end to my misery.  I was running away but, thank God, I ran to the one place that had always been a touchstone for me; the one place where I felt i really belonged.  I know it sound’s trite but the mountains became my sanctuary.”
